Students to gain access to cutting-edge seismic survey design and seismic processing software
Calgary, Alberta (June 24, 2009) – GEDCO, one of Canada’s most respected, privately-owned geophysical companies which is intensely focused on developing, selling, supporting and applying client-driven geophysical software solutions, announces the establishment of an in-kind sponsorship for the Ionian University of Greece valued at € 250,000.
Effective immediately, the University of Greece’s 150 students and 4 faculty members in its AVARTS department are granted unlimited use to GEDCO’s highly sophisticated geophysical software, namely
VISTA® 2D/3D Seismic Data Processing and
OMNI 3D® Seismic Survey Design & Modeling.
“VISTA and OMNI 3D are probably two of the most valuable and reliable tools we have ever worked with,” admitted
Dr. Micheal Arvanitis from the AVARTS Department at the University of Greece.
In addition to gaining access to five licenses of each product, the university’s students and faculty can enjoy support services by GEDCO’s legendary technical support services team.
“It’s really a win-win situation when GEDCO is able to empower future generations of geophsyicists while sharing in the innovations they develop,” said
Andreas Cordsen, President and CEO of GEDCO.
“By partnering with the University of Greece, we are making sure students have access to the tools they need to succeed and ensuring that our products continue to be on the cutting-edge of innovation. We hope this working relationship with the University of Greece will grow and are confident their students and faculty will reap many benefits from using our products,” concluded Cordsen.
As part of its unique Global University Partnership Program, GEDCO has supported more than 25 academic and research institutions by providing cutting-edge geophysical solutions and entrusting students with the tools they need to become resourceful geophysicists.
Today, VISTA® and OMNI 3D® are used by hundreds of students worldwide who provide valuable feedback for the products’ ongoing development. Ultimately, new product innovations arising from academic circles are released to GEDCO’s hundreds of international corporate users.
In August 2009, GEDCO will release versions 9.0 of its signature geophysical software products. New product features will be publicly presented at the SEG in Houston, TX from October 25 to 30.
ABOUT GEDCO
Founded in 1990 and based in Calgary, Canada, GEDCO is intensely focused on developing, selling, supporting and applying client-driven geophysical software solutions for the exploration sector.
Cherishing a highly customer-centric culture and treasuring an unwavering passion for geophysical theory, GEDCO’s 27 employees deliver geophysical software solutions that offer superior value and generate proven results for acquisition contractors, major exploration players, and processing centers located in over 50 countries worldwide.
GEDCO’s proprietary software packages include OMNI 3D®, the industry’s standard for seismic survey design and modeling, and VISTA®, one of the sector’s leading 2D/3D seismic data processing tools. Both software products are complemented by legendary support services and training programs to ensure clients’ technical needs are met effectively and promptly.
GEDCO’s consulting services extend from complete seismic project management involving survey evaluation and design (SED), seismic data acquisition and specialized interpretation to gravity and High Resolution AeroMagnetic (HRAM) data sales and interpretation. Using its proprietary software products, GEDCO’s consulting services also offer Borehole Geophysics specializing in Vertical Seismic Profile (VSP), covering survey design and modeling, processing and interpretation. All of GEDCO’s service offerings take into consideration clients’ objectives and resource constraints to ensure that supplied outcomes are comprehensive, meaningful and useful.
ABOUT VISTA® 2D/3D Seismic Data Processing Software
First developed in Canada in 1985, VISTA® is among the industry’s fastest selling 2D/3D Seismic Data Processing software packages. VISTA® which was the market’s first PC-based seismic data processing software and is also available for LINUX platforms, delivers proven algorithms for optimal quality control of seismic data out in the field, provides robust algorithms for VSP processing, and offers intuitive flows for complete seismic data processing sequences in the processing centre. By taking advantage of VISTA®’s flexibility, reliability, and ease of use, processors increase their efficiency while maximizing the dependability of their results. VISTA® is available in four sophisticated modules, namely, 2D/3D Field QC, 2D/3D Field Processing, and 2D/3D Full Processing, and VSP.
ABOUT OMNI 3D® Seismic Survey Design & Modeling
First developed in Canada in 1985, OMNI 3D® is the most up-to-date collection of 3D seismic survey design modules in the industry. Automatic generation of an open database allows data access through all stages of planning, execution and analysis. From the new task wizards to the full scale plotting, OMNI 3D® remains the only survey design software needed in the office and in the field.
ABOUT the University of Greece’s AVARTS Department
Founded in 2004 in Corfu, one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, the department is probably the newest university department all over Greece. Each year more than 150 new students join the department for undergraduate studies. This new department hosts a very active SEG and EAGE student section focusing on research on numerical solutions for geophysical problems.
