GEDCO Sponsors 4th International Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences Conference

Event held in Austin, Texas November 7-11, 2009

Calgary, Alberta (October 22, 2009) – GEDCO, Canada’s leading developer of innovative geophysical software solutions for the exploration industry, will be sponsoring the 4th International Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences Conference held at the University of Texas in Houston from November 7 to 11, 2009.

Hosted by the Bureau of Economic Geology and held at the Jackson School of Geosciences in Austin, Texas, this symposium is part of an initiative of the International Geoscience Programme (project 511) which is a joint endeavor of UNESCO and the International Union of Geological Sciences.

The conference aims to bring a world perspective of submarine mass movements and their consequences by assembling excellent contributions from active international researchers, academic institutions and the oil and gas industry. In doing so, the event will provide full coverage of the many scientific and engineering aspects of this type of marine and coastal geo-hazard.

“GEDCO’s products - OMNI 3D® Seismic Survey Design and Modeling and VISTA® 2D/3D Seismic Data Processing - can be directly applied to the identification of submarine mass movements,” said Randy Kolesar, Manager of the Software Services division at GEDCO.

“While OMNI 3D® can assist with the planning of a seismic survey to properly capture the seismic data corresponding to specific submarine features, VISTA® can help with processing the seismic data acquired during such a surveys. VISTA® can also be used to aid in the interpretation of already processed seismic data,” he specified.

This marks the conference first North American stop since its inception.
