GEDCO’s Andreas Cordsen and Mike Galbraith Hit the Road to Share Geophysical Insights

Calgary, Alberta (March 8, 2010) – GEDCO’s Andreas Cordsen and Mike Galbraith will be visiting Mexico and Bahrain respectively in the coming weeks in an attempt to share their geophysical wisdom and profile the latest advancements with OMNI 3D® and VISTA®.

Starting March 11 to the 12th, Andreas Cordsen, President and CEO for GEDCO will be in Mexico for the AMGE Symposium titled « Mejores práticas en diseno, adquisición y procesado sísmico en áreas de geología compleja ». As part of this event held in Villahermose, Tabasco, Mr. Cordsen will be making a short presentation on Designing 3D Seismic Surveys in Structurally Complex Areas on Thursday, March 11 starting at 1 p.m.

“Given the current status of our global energy industry, geophysicists all around the world are being presented with new and exciting challenges,” said Mr. Cordsen who has twenty years of geophysical experience, specializing in applying innovative 3-D seismic design and interpretation approaches to solving exploration and development problems.

“Having worked previously in Latin America and being familiar with the stakes unique to this part of the globe, I look forward to sharing my past experiences in 3D survey design with my geophysical colleagues from Mexico. I do hope my presentation on designing 3D surveys in structurally complex areas will support the attainment of the geophysical objectives in the area,” he added.

When he is not overseeing GEDCO’s operations, Mr. Cordsen is an SEG instructor for the course "Planning and Designing a Land 3D Seismic Survey," which is offered both through the SEG and privately. The course notes were published by the SEG in 2000 as a Geophysical Development No. 9 book entitled “Planning Land 3-D Seismic Surveys”, co-authored with GEDCO’s Mike Galbraith and John Peirce.

Mike Galbraith, who is Vice-President for GEDCO will also be on the road until March 17, 2010. He will be making his first stop at the GEO 2010 tradeshow in Bahrain and co-hosting an exhibition booth with RII. There, he will be showcasing OMNI 3D and VISTA, the company’s sophisticated geophysical software products used for the effective survey planning and processing of 2D/3D seismic data.

Following his tradeshow attendance, Mr. Galbraith will be teaching two courses in Dubai, namely Land and Marine 3D Seismic Survey Design & Modeling using OMNI 3D® on March 13-14, 2010, followed by Full Processing with VISTA® on March 15-18, 2010.

“I very much look forward to renewing the many friendships and contacts in the Gulf area formed during the past 15 years or so – since giving his first 3D design class in Abu Dhabi in the mid 90’s,” said Mr. Galbraith who Mike has close to 40 years of extensive geophysical knowledge and expertise in wavelet theory, signal processing algorithms, migration, 3D processing in general and the design of 3D surveys.

In 1985, Mr. Galbraith developed a 3D design program and since, he has given or published roughly 35 papers at SEG conferences and journals, including an SEG Outstanding Paper Award in 1994.

He has developed quantitative methodology for calculating the fold and resolution needed to image specific geological targets, as outlined in a Leading Edge article in 2004. He has used these concepts to design very large and expensive 3D surveys in the Middle East

GEDCO next tradeshow attendances will be at the GEO Canada 2010 in Calgary on May 10 to 14, and also at the EAGE in Barcelona on June 14 to 17. At those key industry functions, GEDCO’s software specialists will be unveiling the most recent software innovations for OMNI 3D® and VISTA® versions 10.0.
