Calgary, Alberta (March 29, 2010) – In just over a month, GEDCO’s hundreds of users all around the globe will gain access to the new
OMNI 3D® 10.0 – the exploration industry's standard software for 3D seismic survey design and modeling.
First developed by geophysicists and for geophysicists more than 25 years ago, OMNI 3D
® empowers users to effectively plan, execute, and analyze land, marine, transition zone, VSP, and multi-component seismic surveys.
Featuring superior user interface and versatile multi-project handling capabilities, OMNI 3D
® allows users to quickly and effectively reduce risks, manage costs, and optimize data quality with respect to seismic acquisition programs.
“In order to succeed in today’s challenging economic and energy contexts, geophysicists all over the world require highly sophisticated tools that deliver dependable results in a quick and effective manner,” said
Andreas Cordsen, President and CEO of GEDCO. “By continuously expanding OMNI 3D’s features and by being in tune with our clients’ needs, we are able to deliver new annual product releases that feature meaningful benefits.” added Cordsen who partnered with GEDCO’s Mike Galbraith and John W. Peirce in 2000 to author the SEG’s Planning Land 3-D Seismic Surveys book.
Among the new enhancements users will enjoy in OMNI 3D® 10.0 are:
- Integrated geographic projections
- Direct interface to Google Earth for elevation and image input
- Input and output of KML/KMZ files
- Offset dependent Fresnel zone binning for illumination analysis
- AVO-specific binning analysis
- Converted wave binning with anisotropy
- Interactive diffraction and reflection wizards in 3D ray trace modeling
- Expanded control of multiple generation in 2D ray trace modeling
- Improved histogram chart displays
- Streamer undershoot modeling
- Distributed network batch calculations in 2D elastic wave equation modeling
- New binning color maps, including trace density and binning error
- Redesigned OBC Design Wizard
- Addition of Curved Streamers for Coiled Marine Surveys
“The development process for OMNI 3D® 10.0 is one which integrates thoughtful product design coupled with cutting-edge geophysical science and insightful user feedback,” said Sharon Dickie, GEDCO's Applications Developer for the OMNI 3D® Software.
“The outcome from the last months of development is a dependable product that continues to deliver practical functionality for optimal seismic survey design and modeling. I am confident users will appreciate the enhancements and reap many benefits from the added product features,” she concluded.
In an effort to meet clients’ specific product needs, OMNI 3D® 10.0 will continue to be available in two sophisticated configurations:
- OMNI 3D® Layout - Allows users to design and evaluate 3D land, marine and OBC surveys and includes array design and 2D ray modeling.
- OMNI 3D® Workshop - Offers all OMNI 3D® Layout functionality plus 2D elastic wave modeling, 3D ray tracing, and advanced footprint analysis.
Copies of the new OMNI 3D® 10.0 DVD will be mailed directly to existing product users in May along with a complete manual of instructions for optimizing the new features.
Public product demonstrations will be available at the GEO Canada 2010 show in Calgary, Alberta from May 10 to 14, followed by the EAGE in Barcelona from June 14 to 17, and the 2010 SEG in Denver from October 17 to 22. Throughout these key industry functions, GEDCO will be hosting booths where technical product staff will be on site to answer questions.
